2024 Election: Looters Arrest Toll Rises to 30

Eighteen more suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the looting and damaging of some state properties across the country on the sideline of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

This brings to 30 the number of persons arrested so far.

The suspects per preliminary investigations, attacked and set ablaze the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damango in the Savannah Region; damaged some residences of District Chief Executives (DCEs) in some parts of the country and; vandalised some collation centres.

Some were also captured breaking into the School Feeding Project Warehouse in Tamale in the Northern Region and making away with some items.

Following the commencement of investigations, 12 were arrested on Saturday while eighteen more were announced to be in police custody on Sunday.

“The Ghana Police Service has arrested 18 more suspects in connection with the ongoing investigation into looting and causing damage to properties in some parts of the country,” it said in a statement.

Additional information from the police also indicated that one suspect, who was shot by an accomplice during the attack, had died.

Meanwhile, an Electoral Commission official who sustained an injury from the attack is receiving medical treatment.

The police in their statement assured that intelligence-led operations are still ongoing to get other perpetrators arrested to face justice.

“Once again, we urge the public to remain calm as Police officers have been deployed to key locations to intensify patrols and maintain law and order,” it added.
