138 Suspected Criminals Arrested In The Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced that one hundred and thirty-eight suspected criminals have been arrested in Kumasi Metropolis and other parts of the region.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the suspects were arrested through a series of intelligence-led swoops in the region.
He said the operation was part of the measures to curb violent crimes.
According to him, “the exercise started on Monday, 21st June 2021 and being conducted simultaneously in the region.”
“We are conducting this exercise basically to prevent the commission of crimes and as a way to destabilize the activities of suspected criminals within the region.”
“So far one hundred and thirty-eight persons have been arrested from swoops conducted. The Command will screen and prosecute those found to be engaging in activities contrary to the law to serve as a deterrent to others.”
He further noted exhibits suspected to be illegal drugs were retrieved from some of the suspects.
“Meanwhile some of the suspects found with exhibits suspected to be illegal drugs have been handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation.”
He assured the public that the exercise will be a continuous one.
He also said, “identification parade is planned to afford victims who have fallen victims to some of these criminals to identify their attackers to enable the Command build a strong case against these suspects as soon as possible to ensure their successful prosecution.”
