120-day Social Contract: We Promised and Kept Them- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama says his government has honoured the promises made to Ghanaians regarding the 120-day Social Contract.
The President, while in opposition, outlined 26 policies in the NDC Manifesto to be achieved within the first 120 days of his assumption of office.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) among other things promised to nominate within the first 14 days the complete list of Cabinet Ministers for parliamentary approval; Constitute the LEANEST AND MOST EFFICIENT government under the fourth republic in my first 90 days in office; Establish a robust CODE OF CONDUCT AND STANDARDS for all government officials; and Hold a National Economic Dialogue to discuss the true state of the economy and prepare a homegrown fiscal consolidation programme to guide the budget.
He also promised to scrap the E-levy, COVID levy, 10% levy on bet winnings, and Emissions levy; review taxes and levies on vehicles and equipment imported into the country for industrial and agricultural purposes; Commence drafting needed legal amendments and prepare for implementing the 24-Hour Economy Policy under the Office of the President; and Establish an Accelerated Export Development Council (AEDC).
He further vowed to Convene a national consultative conference on EDUCATION; Implement the ‘No-Academic-Fee’ policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions; Introduce Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities, the Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares) Fund; Commence the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools; and others.
Addressing the country on the 120th day of his presidency on May 7, Mahama said the government had not reneged on its commitments.
“We made promises and we have kept them. Our first 120 days have been defined by decisive actions, commitment to transparency, and a relentless focus on building the Ghana we want- a just, prosperous and united Ghana.”
