You Can Now Follow People, Organisations On WhatsApp
WhatsApp has introduced a Channels feature to the messaging app allowing users to follow organizations, sports teams, artists, and others.
The WhatsApp Channel was rolled out on Wednesday to more than 150 countries following its introduction first in June in Colombia and Singapore and later to eight more countries.
“We’ve appreciated all the positive feedback from our initial start in ten countries,” Meta said while announcing the WhatsApp Channel.
“Channels are separate from your chats, and who you choose to follow is not visible to other followers. We also protect the personal information of both admins and followers,” it explained.
The features with Channels include an enhanced directory which allows users to find channels to follow that are automatically filtered based on their country.
“You can also view channels that are new, most active, and popular based on number of followers,” it said and indicated that it will make it possible for anyone to create a channel in the coming months.
Also is the reaction feature which enables users to give feedback using emojis.
In addition is the edit feature which affords admins the ability to make changes to their updates for up to 30 days.
It also enables users to forward an Update to chats or groups. The forwarded update will include a link which will redirect people to the Channel to find out more.
This is the latest of Meta’s series of updates to WhatsApp.
