World’s Oldest Person Dead
The Guinness World Record-certified oldest human on earth, Maria Branyas Morera has passed away after living 117 years on earth.
The Spanish woman died on Monday, August 19, 2024, at a nursing home in Catalonia in Spain where she staying since the year 2000, according to Guinness World Records.
She was 117 years 168 days and is the eighth-oldest person certified by the Record Keeper in history.
Born on March 4, 1907, she became the oldest living woman upon the death of French national Lucile Randon who lived from 11 February 1904 to 17 January 2023 at 118 years 340 days.
In an interview in 2019, she attributed her longevity to “an orderly life that is socially very pleasant… a good life, without excesses”.
She was confronted with mobility and hearing challenges prior to her death.
Meanwhile, Reuters reports that a 116-year-old Japanese woman is set to pick the record.
