Wontumi’s Arrest: Minority Boycotts Parliamentary Sitting In Protest

The Minority in Parliament has walked out of ongoing proceedings to show solidarity with the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako known as Wontumi who is currently in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Following his arrest over an alleged financial crime in a transaction with the Exim Bank on May 27, he was granted a GH¢50 million bail with two sureties to be justified on May 28.
However, he has yet to meet all the conditions.
In Parliament on May 29, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, condemned the action of EOCO and announced plans to boycott Parliamentary proceedings as they demanded that the right thing be done.
“However, our numbers, we will protest by absenting ourselves from proceedings of this house and join him. We are all going sit there and we are not going to be part of any proceedings. They must do the right thing.”
He urged his colleagues from the other side of the house to join them in fighting for the rights of the politician.
“I pray that my colleague opposite MPs will support so that EOCO will know that when it got to this matter of Chairman Wontumi, Parliament was united with one voice in telling them that they should do the right thing.”
