“Without The Golden Stool, There Can Be No Asantehene” – Otumfuo Akomforehene

Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, the Otumfuo Akomforehene has pointed out that, “without the Golden Stool, there can be no Asantehene”.

According to him, the Golden Stool is the Asante Nation’s most respected physical emblem, and it is the Golden Stool that chooses who shall be Asantehene.

“The Golden Stool is the highly revered physical symbol of Asante”, he said.

He stated this during his keynote address at the 6th Opemsuo Lectures organised by the Asante Professionals Club today December 11 2021 at the Golden Tulip Kumasi City.

Oheneba Akwasi Abayie went on to say that, the spirit of the Golden Stool has not changed since it descended from the skies and it remains the same as it was at first.

“The spirit of the Golden Stool since that time is the same spirit”.

He however commended that, “For a kingdom to have existed for the past 5 centuries is, without doubt, a magnificent kingdom”.

The 6th Opemsuo lecture was held under the theme “Is The Golden Stool Still Potent In Asanteman’s Contemporary Governance Setting? Assessing The Origins of the Ashanti Nation and the Genealogical Structure of The King And Queen Mothers (From The 17th to the 21st Century)”.

Some dignitaries who graced the occasion were Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI who represented the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, Otumfuo Akomforehene who also doubles as the Keynote Speaker at the event, Archbishop Emiratus Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Prof. Dr Benjamin Baffoe-Bonnie, Chairman.

Panel members who were at the event were Ama Serwaa Nerquaye-Tetteh, Secretary-General, Ghana National Commission for UNESCO, Lawyer Yaw Acheampong Boafo, President of Ghana Bar Association and Dr. Akwasi Achampong.
