Why Inaki, Ashimeru, others Missed Call-up
Henry Asante Twum, Head of Communications of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has given reasons for the exclusion of nine players from the squad to face Mali and Central Africa Republic in the next World Cup qualifiers of the Black Stars.
Players including Inaki Williams, Baba Iddrisu and Majeed Ashimeru are all recuperating from injuries they have sustained, leaving them temporarily unavailable for the international duty.
According to Henry, Almería’s Baba Iddrisu and Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams have undergone surgeries.
“Baba Iddrisu undergone surgery.”
On Inaki’s absence, he said he underwent a “foot surgery to remove a foreign object in his foot” while Majeed Ashimeru is suffering a left calf muscle tear, an injury he sustained during Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in early 2024.
Other injured players include Daniel Kofi Kyere, Nathaniel Adjei, Denis Odoi, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Paintsil and Joseph Aidoo.
Meanwhile, players who made it the list are Lawrence Ati Zigi, Joseph Wollacot, Fredrick Asare, Gideon Mensah, Ebenezer Annan, Mohammed Salisu, Jerome Opoku, Abdul Mumin, Alexander Djiku, Alidu Seidu, Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, Salis Abdul Samed and Ibrahim Sulemana.
The rest are Thomas Partey, Edmund Addo, Elisha Owusu, Abu Francis, Osman Bukari, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, Ibrahim Osman, Kamaaldeen Sulemana, and Brandon Thomas-Asante.
