Why a Surge in Fire Outbreaks Along Accra-Suhum Has Been Predicted

Alex King Nartey, a member of the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has predicted a surge in fire outbreaks along the Accra-Suhum stretch of the Greater Accra Region.

This prediction follows a viral video of residents along the stretch siphoning fuel from a tanker involved in an accident.

“I won’t be surprised to hear a surge in fire outbreaks on this Accra Suhum stretch due to the siphoning of fuel from the fallen tanker by the residents,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

According to him, the mode of storage by these persons would increase the risk of fire.

“This is because almost all of these people do not have a car and will be storing the siphoned fuel in their rooms, thereby increasing the risk of fires,” he explained.

The said fuel tanker overturned on the Nsawam Road near Panpaso, according to reports, spilling its contents.

As residents converge to scoop from the spoil, there are officers of the Ghana National Fire Service working to salvage the situation.
