What GES Found in Savelugu SHS Feeding Probe

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has affirmed that the viral video regarding the alleged poor feeding situation of Savelugu Senior High School does not reflect the real situation on the ground.

Findings
On the said date, students were scheduled to be served jollof rice with eggs for supper; however, the supplier failed to supply the eggs.

This happened at a time the headmaster was absent, having obtained approval from the Municipal Director of Education, it said in a statement.

The school proceeded to serve the meal without eggs and assured the students that double protein would be served to them in the subsequent meal.

This decision, the GES finds ‘unacceptable’, as it believes an alternative measure could have been explored.

Meanwhile, the probe found that the video was recorded by a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had joined a party event hosted at the school’s dining hall.

“The incident was an isolated occurrence resulting from inadequate supervision by the school leadership at the time. Contrary to the narrative suggested in the circulated video, the incident does not accurately represent the school’s typical feeding arrangements.”

Measures
The Service noted, however, that the necessary disciplinary action had been taken while the Municipal Director of Education had been temporarily assigned to supervise the school’s feeding arrangements.

“Management assures parents, students, and the general public that the provision of adequate and quality meals for students remains a key priority for the Ghana Education Service”
