We’ve Made History in Ashanti Region; NDC Chairman Tells Otumfuo

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon Andrew Augustus Nana Akwasi, has announced to the occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the significant stride made in the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under his leadership in the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

During the first Awukudae Festival in the year 2025 at the Manhyia Palace on New Year’s Day, the leader introduced to the King some of the Members of Parliament-elect within the Region, updating the king about seats won so far.

He said the NDC had risen past their usual four-seat maximum to seven, a feat he doesn’t take lightly.

Aside from the seven seats, he said three more they believe they have won but remain under contention are being worked on to be declared in their favour by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking on his behalf, Hon Ofori Agyeman, former MCE for Obuasi said, “He (Chairman Andrews) has been able to set a record no Chairman has been able to achieve. The highest number of parliamentary seats the NDC had ever held in the Ashanti Region during an election was four. However, under his leadership, the NDC has won seven incontestable seats, and they are set to be sworn into office. There are three contestable ones and we believe we will secure them to make it 10 in the Ashanti Region.”

Peace
He also highlighted the peace that characterized the election in the Ashanti Region and credited the Asantehene’s invaluable counsel for the success.

“2024 was an election year. He (Chairman Andrews) came to seek the blessings of our lord. He informed Otumfuo he aspired to lead the party into the election so that there would be no disturbances and promised to make sure the NDC did well in the Ashanti Region.

“The prayer and blessings of our lord have helped him honour that commitment to the end. There were no disturbances from the members of the NDC in the election.”

Intervention
He further sought the blessings, counsel, and assistance of the King for himself and the NDC at large so that they could steer the country’s administration as they take over on January 7, 2025.

“He is also here to seek the same blessings to be able to deliver on his mandate as Regional Chairman. He also seeks the prayers of our lord for the President-elect who will be sworn into office on Tuesday. We have a daunting task ahead of us and we will need the blessings of our lord, his directions and help to be able to fulfil.”

New Year
Through his spokesperson, Chairman Andrews also used the occasion to wish the Monarch well in the new year.

“Our Chairman wishes our lord a happy new year.”

Delegation
Among the delegation that paid homage to the King were the Regional Secretary, Amoakohene Frank, the MP-elect for Adansi Akrofrom, Azumah Joseph, the MP-elect for Adansi Asokwa, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi, and the Deputy Women’s Organiser, Yaa Boahemaa Agyeman.

Outstanding seats
Among the outstanding seats in the Ashanti Region are Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano North and Ahafo Ano South West constituencies.

In a statement issued on December 23, 2024, the Regional Chairman said his outfit was taking legal course of action to take the seats.

“The NDC is taking legal action to address the issues and ensure the rightful results are recognized. We are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process and will continue to stand firm in our efforts to uphold the will of the electorate.

Meanwhile, among the seats won are Asawase, Ejura Sekyere and New Edubease.
