We’re Working to Make Direct Flights to Ghana Available- Trinidad PM
With the commissioning of the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Trinidad and Tobago aims to render the vast Atlantic Ocean a meaningless impediment between the people of Africa and the Caribbean
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr the Hon Keith Rowley on Sunday, May 12, 2024, announced that plans are far advanced to make direct flights from Trinidad and Tobago to Ghana available.
With this, sees an opportunity to forge a much stronger alliance in trade and investment through travel for mutual economic benefits.
Currently, no direct flight operates in either country, and persons who seek to go on the journey en route through London will endure a 15-hour-journey, while a direct flight will take eight
Speaking at the culmination of the 25th Enstoolment Anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace, he said, “Let’s not let the Atlantic keep us apart. This will not only provide a bridge between Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana as we join hands, but it will also provide a bridge between the Caribbean Capricorn and the African Continent to increase trade and investment between Africa and the Caribbean.”
“With the opening of the brand new Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, we see the first steps of international travel as possibilities between our people, Ghana and the Caribbean and Ghana and the people of Trinidad and Tobago. We’re working on it. I trust when the first flights are available, we will see many of you coming to do business, to vacation or just to explore Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. Support that trade route.”
Talks over the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two nations are still ongoing as Trinidad and Tobago hopes to make Ghana its gateway to West Africa.
