We’re Here to Protect NPP, Parliament and Ghana; NPP Supporter Reveals

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) arrived in their numbers at the premises of the Accra International Conference Centre where Parliamentary business is temporarily being held on Tuesday morning amid tensions over which side of the House holds the majority status.

It is unknown what their mission is but these supporters from the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency were dropped off in busses clad in party paraphernalia and are currently hanging around the premises.

One of them availed himself to speak to the media, during which he revealed plans to protect their party’s interest, the law-making body, and the country at large.

“We’re at the Parliament to protect NPP and Ghana and our Parliament,” he told TV3 in an interview.

Many are predicting confrontation between the NPP and NDC sides today as the House convenes for the first time since four seats were declared vacant tilting the balance of power to the NDC with the Supreme Court subsequently delivering a stay of execution order against the decree.

As the NDC side vows to “jealously” protect their earned majority status, the NPP side says the House has reverted to its previous status in their favour with the court order.

In the wake of this development, the Parliamentary Service issued a statement on the eve of October 22 outlining some protocols to safeguard the protection of all members, leadership and workers of the House when it convenes.

Among them are accessing the chamber at 8 am, screening all persons entering the chamber, restricting personal security details access to the chamber and restricting public access.
