We’ll Digitalise Road Toll Collection- Roads Minister-Designate
The Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza has announced plans to reinstate the collection of road tolls, however, digitally.
According to him, the old fashion of collection will not be used this time around.
The new means of collection, he said, would facilitate collection, maximize revenue mobilization and ensure accountability.
“The road toll is coming back but not in the form of building obstructions on the road for drivers to stop and somebody taking money from them,” he said when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 20, 2025.
“It will be coming back based on a technological platform and that makes it easy to collect, easy to account for and the public to know what is actually being used for.”
He noted that a policy on its enrolment and implementation will be undertaken with the Minister for Finance.
“Together with the Road Minister, we shall come out with a policy as to how it will be done.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo abolished road toll collection in 2022 and in its place instituted the Electronic Transfer Levy known as (E-Levy).
