“We Went There For Them To Arrest Us” -Yakubu Tony Aidoo
One of the named rioters who stormed the Suame Police Station last Sunday has confirmed his involvement in the incident.
Speaking on the Opemsuo FM morning show, Yakubo Tony Aidoo said they beseiged the police station so that “they will be arrested too”.
According to him, “after their arrival from a campaign, as they were deliberating on matters concerning the party at the office of Muntaka, some policemen came in firing warning shots and alleging some of their party members were armed robbers”
“We are always here with them in carrying out the party’s various activities, three of them are car dealers and the police are saying they are armed robbers, all because they are members of the zongo community”
He further stated that the arrest of their party members was political in nature.
” We woke up one morning to find the entrance of the office of Muntaka in NPP colours… So some of our members used dirty paint to repaint it. That very night, some policemen were brought in alleging that our men were armed robbers”.
He therefore justified their activity at the Suame police station saying “so we all stormed the police station for them to arrest us because the Police Commander has been pestering members of the zongo community.”
