We Intend to Add 37,000 Ghanaians to Qatari Workforce- Govt

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the government intends to add 37,000 Ghanaians to the Qatari workforce under the newly ratified Ghana-Qatar Labour Mobility Agreement.
Currently, he said, some 13,000 Ghanaians are already working in Qatar.
“We intend to double this number by next year and hit 50,000 in the medium term… We commit to a transparent and credible recruitment process.”
He noted that full implementation of the agreement had commenced, he said while reporting on his meeting with His Excellency Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, Minister for Labour of Qatar, on the sidelines of the Doha Forum on Sunday.
Ghanaians will, by this, be absorbed into Qatari sectors including aviation, tourism, IT, logistics, transportation and public health.
He also guaranteed better conditions with strong protection of their rights.
Ablakwa stated that Ghana will host the first meeting of the Ghana-Qatar Joint Technical Committee in February 2026 to oversee the successful implementation of the partnership.
The Mahama administration will keep pursuing smart policies to create jobs for the youth both in Ghana and abroad.
