WAEC Withholds Entire Results of 348 Private WASSCE Candidates

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) says the entire results of 348 private West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates have been withheld over suspicions of examination malpractices.

It added that the subject results of 469 others had also been withheld.

Their release or cancellation will be based on the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Among the offences are collusion, impersonation, possession of foreign materials in examination halls and seeking external assistance.

It comes as the results have been released. Candidates have been directed to access their results online via the WAEC website.

The Council, in a statement, cautioned against contacting scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee payable through mobile money transfers.

It affirmed that its results database remains secure.

Statistics
In a press release, the Council said a total of 41,767 candidates sat the examination.

The figure comprises 20,036 males and 24,501 females, and includes 16 visually impaired and seven hearing impaired candidates.

It added that 2,422 registered candidates were absent.

 

Results
The performance of candidates in the four core subjects was mixed. In English Language, 67.43% of candidates obtained grades A1 to C6, while 11.04% recorded F9. Core Mathematics saw 49.84% achieve passes, but 27.69% failed.

Integrated Science recorded comparatively weaker performance, with 35.00% obtaining passes and 32.00% failing. In contrast, Social Studies registered a strong performance, as 81.21% of candidates secured grades A1 to C6, while 10.42% failed.
