Unemployed Woman Pours ‘Acid’ on Ex-lover

A 28-year-old taxi driver has sustained serious facial and body injuries after his 30-year-old former lover poured a liquid substance suspected to be acid on him.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of May 28 at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region while the victim identified as Gideon Frimpong was going to drop the suspect, Mavis Nkrumah, off after she reportedly showed up unannounced at his residence.
The attack was sparked right after Mavis sought and got her final confirmation about Gideon’s disinterest in her.
“After Gideon confirmed for the third that he didn’t want anything to do with her, Mavis poured the substance suspected to acid on him,” Superintendent of Police Julianna Obeng, Head of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, reported on Wednesday.
The suspect fled the scene and was arrested at McCarthy Hill on June 3, 2025, while attempting to flee the country to Togo.
“Mavis attempted to bolt into a neighbouring country and was arrested on June 3 and is in custody assisting with police investigation.”
Meanwhile, the police reported that the victim had been treated and discharged from a medical facility.
The public has since been advised to use lawful and peaceful means of resolving misunderstandings, warning that acts of violence are criminal and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
