The University of Ghana (UG), Legon, has suspended all social gatherings on campus following the resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
The information was conveyed by the Registrar of the school in a statement on Wednesday.
“THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS WOULD LIKE TO INFORM ALL STUDENT BODIES THAT DUE TO THE RESURGENCE OF COVID-19 CASES ON UNIVERSITY OF GHANA CAMPUS, IT HAS BECOME NECESSARY TO SUSPEND ALL SOCIAL GATHERINGS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.”
This affects GRASAG, SRC, JRC, and Departmental and School Associations’ week celebrations and activities.
She explained that the measure is necessary to safeguard the well-being of the university community.
The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate issued an alert earlier this week regarding a recent resurgence of COVID-19 on the Legon campus.
In a public notice dated June 23, 2025, the Health Services Directorate warned of an uptick in cases and directed for the wearing of face masks in enclosed or crowded spaces, regular handwashing or use of alcohol-based sanitisers, maintaining a physical distance of at least one metre, and ensuring proper ventilation in offices and lecture halls.
