UCC Ranked Best University in Ghana

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been ranked as the Best university in Ghana and among the best continentally and globally in the 2024-2025 Best Global Universities rankings.

UCC ranked 29 in Africa and 737 in the world in the 10th Annual U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings.

Thirteen indicators were used to calculate the University of Cape Coast’s overall Best Global Universities ranking. These include the Global score, in which they scored 47.9; Global research reputation (ranked 1,121); Regional research reputation (ranked 24); Publications (ranked 1,973); Books (ranked 1,772); Conferences (ranked 2,088); Normalized citation impact (ranked 27); Total citations (ranked 1,360); Number of publications among the top 10% most cited (ranked 1,747); and Percentage of total publications among the top 10% most cited (ranked 949).

The rest are International collaboration – relative to country (1420), International collaboration (261), Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (1264) and Percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (217).

They were also ranked 517 in clinical medicine, 268 in Public, Environmental and Occupational Health and 426 in Social Science and Public Health.

Management of the institution in a press statement said the achievement is consistent with their vision to be a globally acclaimed university for innovative teaching, research, outreach and professional development.

“The ranking reflects the strategic investments made by the University’s Management over the years. The feat further demonstrates the significant steps undertaken by the university in assisting emerging researchers through financial support (Research Grants), implementation of the University’s strategic Research Agenda and facilitating the pursuit of impactful research initiatives such as publishing in credible outlets.”

About the Rankings
This year’s rankings assess academic research and reputation as well as personal considerations, including location, campus culture, strength of particular programmes, and cost.

The overall ranking encompasses 2,250 top institutions spread across 104 countries.
