Two Ruling Party MPs Push For a Raise In Maximum Military Recruitment Age

Two lawmakers belonging to the ruling party are advocating for a a raise in the maximum age limit for military enlistment.

The advocacy initiated by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George received the full support of the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Communication Minister called for a re-examination of the maximum age for enlistment.

“There are people in their 30s who are physically fit and sound enough to serve their Nation. We must not deny them this opportunity simply because of their age.”

He suggested an upper limit of 35 years.

Dafeamekpor followed up with his call to pegged the maximum age at at least 40 years, saying the National Democratic Congress foot soldiers aren’t pleased with the current limit.

He wrote this as he outlined the maximum and minimum age limits 20 countries around the world.

“So in Ghana, we can extend our Age limit to say 35yrs or even 40yrs depending on the medical fitness & non-combatant roles. We need new ways of doing things.”
