Two In Critical Condition After Building Collapsed At Ablekuma
Six persons have sustained injuries after a building under construction collapsed at Ablekuma NIC in the Greater Accra Region.
Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition at the hospital.
The incident reported by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) occurred on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
“Structural Collapse, involving a wall of a building under construction at Ablekuma NIC. Six(6) casualties were rescued but four(4) were rushed to the Akawey Hospital while two (2) are in very critical Condition,” the Service said in a statement.
It brings to six, the number of buildings that have collapsed across the country this year.
In May, Ghana recorded a series of building collapses in the Greater Accra region, Central region and Northern Region.
On May 1, a storey located at Adenta West went down. The second took place on May 5 at Nanakrom in the Adentan Municipality in Accra. On May 7, a six-storey building under construction at the University for Development Studies, City Campus at Sagnarigu in Tamale in the Northern Region also collapsed.
Another storey belonging to Word In Action Church at Old Bortianor in the Ga South Municipality under construction fell on May 9. The last to be recorded in May was on May 24 where a three-storey building at Winneba in the Central Region.
The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry is cited to have blamed the development on the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for their failure to effectively assess the work of land developers intending to erect buildings.
