Trinidad And Tobago PM Invites Asantehene For State Visit

The Prime Minister for Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley, has invited Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for a state visit.

The invitation was officially extended on Friday, June 3o through Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to Ghana resident in Abuja in Nigeria, His Excellency Wendell Vincent Carlton De Landro, during a courtesy call.

This followed an official letter to the Palace inviting the King earlier this year.

Ing Atta Poku who led the delegation from the Consulate in Ghana recalled the invitation was first personally extended by Prime Minister Rowley when he visited Ghana to participate in the 63rd Independence Day celebration, in Kumasi in 2020.

He, however, noted that the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the visit.

On his part, the envoy said Otumfuo’s visit which is scheduled for July 30 will be the country’s first from an African King and a display of “true royalty” in the country.

He presented documentation of the trip’s agenda. As part of the various activities and places the King will be visiting, he said there will be a golf game and an engagement with Ghanaians in the country.

Otumfuo indicated that he was aware of the invitation as his Office is making preparations towards it, noting, “The linkage of brotherhood is there so it is exciting”.

He said he was looking forward to the visit and only hopes it will inure to the benefit of the two countries.

He indicated that just as the Yoruba tribe has a community named after it, the Asantes must earn one as well.

“I’m looking forward to an Asante village just as there is a Yuroba Village there.”

Among the delegation were the Honorary Consul to Ghana, Hilton John Mitchell, the Executive Secretary to Consulate in Ghana, Amma Abrokwaah and an Affiliate to the Consulate, Nana Asiamah Peprah I, the Nkosuohene of Nkawkaw Traditional Area.
