Transport Operators Reduce Fares as Petroleum Prices Decline
Transport operators in Ghana have responded to the recent downward trend in petroleum prices by announcing a welcome reduction in fares, effective from Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
This decision was conveyed through a statement jointly signed by Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, the General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, and Godfred Adulbire, the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
The operators emphasised that this fare adjustment aligns with the “Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares,” which takes into account the consistent decrease in petroleum prices over the past weeks.
The revised fares will cover various modes of transportation, including shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), intercity (long-distance buses), and haulage vehicles.
In their statement, the operators urged all commercial transport providers to comply with the new fares and prominently display them at their respective loading terminals.
They also called for the cooperation of operators, commuters, and the general public in facilitating the smooth implementation of the revised fares.
