Trainee Nurses Cry over Delayed Allowance Payment

Trainee nurses and midwives have publicly expressed their grievances over the government’s delayed payment of their allowances.
According to the Ghana-Nurse Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA), the delay has brought about growing concerns and agitation among trainees who face financial difficulties.
The frustration is deepening as members are commencing clinical placements, which will require funds for transportation and other essential needs.
According to the leadership of the Association, efforts have proven futile after reaching out to the government.
“The Association has been actively engaging the relevant authorities, including the Ministry and the Health/Health Training Institutions (HTI), to advocate for the full and immediate disbursement of trainee allowances. While assurances have been given in the past, these commitments have unfortunately not been honoured within the expected timelines.”
Urging the members to exercise restraint, the Association said it was applying the necessary ‘pressure’ to ensure that this matter is treated with the urgency it deserves.
“In light of the continued delay and lack of clear timelines, the Association is actively preparing for a media engagement to publicly address these concerns and demand accountability if the situation is not resolved through dialogue. While we prefer an amicable and administrative resolution, we are prepared to engage the mainstream media should the need arise.”
