The Supreme Court Ruling on Domelevo’s Leave will Shield NPP Members in Key Institutions – Lawyer Amaliba
Mr Abraham Amaliba, a private legal practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has expressed his belief that the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding Mr Daniel Domelevo’s leave will benefit the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“It is a strategic move by the ruling NPP government. They have set a precedent to protect their party members in key positions anticipating their loss in the upcoming 2024 elections,” he said.
In an interview with George Adjei on NKwantannanso on May 31, the lawyer drew a parallel between Mr Domelevo’s case and the injunction granted against the Member of Parliament for Assin Fosu, Mr James Quayson which prevented him from assuming office until a legal dispute was resolved.
He said that the same could have been done with the case of Mr Domelevo to prevent continuous breach of the constitution by the President.
The Supreme Court of Ghana, today declared President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive for former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo to proceed on leave as unconstitutional.
The court further ruled that the President acted unconstitutionally by appointing an acting Auditor General while Mr Domelevo was still in office.
