The Budget Is Hopeless- Ato Forson
Ranking Member on the Finance Committee in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson has said the 2021 mid year fiscal policy budget statement and economic policy of the government of Ghana did not meet his expectation.
He expected it to capture policies that are capable of tackling the economic crisis in the country but unfortunately didn’t.
Speaking to Citi TV’s Umaru Sanda, he therefore described the mid year budget as hopeless.
According to him, there is no way the policies can help the country in its state.
“The mid year budget is hopeless. I don’t see it to solve the country’s problem.”
“I expected that our Minister responsible for finance would have announced strong policy statements in the mid year review that would seek to address the risks and vulnerabilities in the system.”
“Unfortunately, I have read from cover to cover, I do not see anything in the mid year review that seek to address the death situation that we have. I am not convinced that this mid year review will fix the problem we face in the economy.”
“I was expecting a further cut in expenditure to deal with the problem we have at hand. The problem we have at hand requires a major fiscal measure. I do not see the political will on the part of the government to do it.”
“In as much as the government is cutting some expenditure, they are rather increasing the expenditure for consumption and that’s a major concern”, he lamented.
He further said, “I wanted them to have come and tell us how they are dealing with these hospitals they intend to construct and obviously to tackle the problem.”
