A/R: Large Scale Reclamation of Destroyed Forest Reserves to Begin- Amoakohene

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, says a large-scale reclamation exercise in forest reserves destroyed by the activities of illegal mining is set to begin.
This, he said, follows months of sustained progress.
The exercise at the instant of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, will be undertaken with the help of district assemblies and relevant agencies, he conveyed.
“Periodic updates will be provided as these reclamation activities advance, alongside efforts to prevent any resurgence of illegal mining in restricted zones.”
Galamsey Fight
In an update on the fights against illegal mining, he reported that forest reserves, river bodies, roadsides and foreign involvement in illegal mining activities remain critical in the menace.
“These priority areas continue to be handled by NAIMOS with coordinated support from RECSEC and the various MDISECs. Mining activities outside these restricted zones remain permissible only when certified by rCOMSDEP.”
He added that additional Blue River Guards had been deployed to affected districts to reinforce protection measures and complement the land reclamation work already planned.
Public Assistance
Dr Amoakohene further encouraged public support in ongoing operations by providing timely and accurate information on activities that fall within these priority areas.
“Community vigilance remains essential to safeguarding our natural resources.”
He emphasised that the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) remains committed to a coordinated, transparent, and sustained approach to protecting the environment and securing a more responsible mining sector for the people of the Region.
