Wanted Suspect Nabbed Following Mining Site Armed Robbery

A serial armed robbery suspect on the police wanted list has been arrested following a recent armed robbery incident at a mining site at Sefwi Antobia in the Western North Region.

Identified as Victor Biney, alias Abeiku, he was reportedly among seven armed, masked men who attacked miners at the site with pump-action and single-barrel guns.

They allegedly subjected the miners to severe beatings and made off with gold concentrate and other valuables.

“Three of the attackers were reported to be wearing distinctive smocks, with one smock decorated with talismans, while another wore a military shirt,” a police statement said on Tuesday.

He was arrested on November 17 at his shrine at Attakrom, where a military camouflage shirt, a pair of handcuffs, two cutlasses, a single-barrel gun, several flashlights, seventeen AAA live cartridges, multiple smocks, mercury, particles of gold concentrate, a pump-action gun butt and other items believed to be linked to the robbery were retrieved.

“At the station, the suspect admitted ownership of several of the recovered items. The victims also identified some of the flashlights, the mercury, the gold concentrate and three of the smocks as those taken during the robbery. They further confirmed that the military shirt and some of the smocks matched what the attackers wore.”

He was remanded into police custody following his arraignment before the Juaboso District Court on November 17, 2025.

He will reappear on December 8, 2025.

Meanwhile, the police said it has launched a manhunt for the remaining accomplices currently at large.
