It’s Like We’ve Been In Power For Two Years- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has likened his six-month-old administration to a two-year-old, emphasizing the remarkable strides made.

According to him, things are moving quickly and smoothly.

“It’s exactly six months since we were sworn into office, but it looks like we’ve been in office for two years already because of how quickly things have been moving,” he told the Council of State during a meeting at the Jubilee House on July 7, 2025.

He stated that the Mid-year budget review by the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, will give a better view of what his government has been up to in the last six months.

President Mahama intends to convene a meeting with the Council after the budget review.

Notwithstanding, he outlined illegal mining activities and the suspension of the Chief Justice as some challenges the government has faced.

“One of them is the issue of illegal mining… It’s not an easy one. Just this morning I had to summon the stakeholders- the Anti-galamsey fight- to my office in order that we can streamline their activities because everyone is running helter-skelter doing whatever they want. It has led to the rise of illegal task forces that are taking advantage of the situation.”

“On the issue of governance, we’ve had difficulty with the issue of the suspension of the Chief Justice and of course, the Council of State was involved and part of that process. We’ve done our part, the rest is left with the Committee that was set up to come out with its findings and based on that whatever the consequential issues are will be dealt with.”
