Zongo Nkosuohene Assures Pragya Drivers of Resolution Amid KMA Clash

The Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene, Alhaji Abdul Ali Barry, held a meeting with pragya drivers in Kumasi on August 10, urging them to remain patient as he works to address the ongoing issue with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Alhaji Barry emphasized that he would not tackle this challenge alone but alongside other chiefs within Asanteman.

“We will address the issue collectively. I won’t handle this on my own; there are other chiefs involved. Your concerns will also be conveyed to the Nkosuohene and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for resolution. Please have patience; we are committed to finding a solution,” he assured.

He added, “We won’t allow the situation to worsen. You have also discussed this issue with the Member of Parliament. If you hear anything unfavourable, come here, as this is your home.”

The leaders of the pragya drivers shared their grievances during the meeting, highlighting their concern about the KMA’s ban on their activities within the central business district (CBD).

One of the leaders who spoke to Opemsuo News Reporter, Adwoa Serwaa Yonkodo, expressed frustration, stating, “Our livelihood is centered in the CBD. It’s as if they want to destroy our jobs and leave us hungry. This conflict stems from a lack of education. They call us to meetings, but it’s more about enforcing laws.”

Mr. Justice Anokye, the Public Relations Officer for Zongo Nkosuohene, mentioned in an interview on Nkwantannanso on August 10 that the Nkosuohene aims to uphold the reputation of the Zongo community and advised the drivers to maintain respectful behavior.

This meeting with the Zongo Nkosuohene followed a separate meeting with Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Mutaka, the Member of Parliament for Asawase, who assured the drivers of a response by Friday, August 11.

In April of this year, the KMA’s General Assembly expanded the Transport Reorganisation initiative to include tricycle operators. As part of this initiative, tricycles were banned from operating within Kumasi’s central business district starting from August 1.
