Asantehene Calls For Italy’s Collaboration With Ghana In Agricultural Sector

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has highlighted areas in the agricultural sector viable for collaboration with Italy for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

During a courtesy call by the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Daniela D’Orlandi, at the Manhyia Palace on June 7, he lauded the increase in trading activities between the two countries but called for more asserting there are enormous opportunities in Ghana.

“We also pray that the collaboration between Italy and Ghana will grow from strength to strength. We discussed trade increased up to about 800 million now and we hope that it will increase more.”

He reckons that Ghana is in dire need of technical expertise in the sector in which Italy is well advanced and therefore the call for collaboration.

“And also the collaboration in terms of technical education because we still need that collaboration, especially at this time when we are going through economic difficulties. We still will rely on our friends like you”

“We are looking at creating employment for our country and therefore the middle-level failing in terms of technical education is what we seek from our partners and friends like you. You have the know-how. You have the expertise so if you can build the collaboration to bring people from there to train our people in farming and agriculture, I’m sure it will inure to benefit of our two countries,” he added.

For Ghana, he notes, this will transform the country from import-based to export-based and create employment for the youth.

Through the collaboration, he said Italy will benefit from the country’s labour force which is readily available and cheap.

“If Italian businesses can also partner with us, we have the manpower {and} we have labour which is also cheap.”

H.E D’Orlandi said her mission in Kumasi was to strengthen the friendship between Italy and Ghana and made assurances of this when she proclaimed longevity for the ties between the two countries in twi.
