“See Something Say Something” Campaign Garners 10,000 Calls 30hrs After Launch

The Ministry of National Security has said ten thousand (10,000) calls have been placed to the 999 emergency call line set aside for reporting unusual activities of persons, 30hours after its inauguration on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Out of this total number of calls, the Ministry says, the majority are pranks and calls to verify the operationality of the call centre.

This, the ministry says, “has culminated in long call queues and delayed response to calls made to the centre”.

“While the Ministry assures the public of the activeness of the call centre and encourages same to report all suspicious persons and behaviours, we beseech all and sundry to desist from making prank calls to the centre as doing so undermines the ability of law enforcement agencies to effectively respond to actual crisis”.

It added, “We encourage all Ghanaians to ‘Say Something If you See Something'”.

The 999 emergency call line was activated during the inauguration of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign last Tuesday.

By the campaign, Ghanaians are advised to report any suspicious activities they spot around them to the police or persons in authority or contact the 999 call line.

“You need to help the security and intelligence agencies. You need to report any suspicious activity that you see”, Kweku Asomani, the National Security Coordinator said.
