Four Perish after Trailer Truck Smashes into Sprinter along Buipe–Tamale Highway

The Ghana National Fire Service has reported a fatal accident at Sawaba No. 2 along Buipe–Tamale Highway.
The accident on March 31, 2026, involved a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 9332-17 and a trailer truck that fled the scene after smashing into the former.
According to the Service, the sprinter carrying 25 passengers was travelling from Buipe to Kumasi when the incident happened.
Prior to the arrival of personnel of the GNFS, 19 passengers were rescued and transported to the Buipe Government Hospital, while three others were in a minibus.
“Four (4) persons (2 females, 2 males) died—three (3) at the scene and one (1) later at the hospital. The deceased at the scene were handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation,” it said in a statement.
“The Sprinter Benz sustained serious damage, and preliminary investigations indicate the trailer caused the crash before fleeing.”
