Bawku Conflict: Defence Minister Orders Investigation After Resurgence

The Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has ordered an investigation into the resurgence of the Bawku conflict over the weekend.

In a Facebook post, he vowed to take swift action on the recommendations of the report.

“I have directed thorough investigations into the recent matter and promised to take swift action based on recommendations.”

Dr Omane Boamah, therefore, called for restraint and calm in Bawku regarding the latest developments.

“Once again, let us ensure restraint!”

It was reported over the weekend that some military personnel destroyed a statue of the Zugran of the Kusaug Traditional Area Asigri Abugrago Azoka II and brutalised residents.

In retaliation, some “unknown” youth launched a gun attack on a vehicle escorted by soldiers.

Condemning both acts, the Minority leader in parliament, Mahama Ayariga, demanded an investigation into the incident.

“I demand an immediate investigation by the senior hierarchy of the military. In the same vein, I also condemn the brutality of the military yesterday 13th July 2025. The violent gun attack by unknown youth on the vehicle escorted by soldiers is equally condemned and further attacks must cease.”
