Bawku Conflict: Curfews On Nalerigu and Walewale Lifted

The government has lifted the curfews on Nalerigu and Walewale in the North East Region, effective immediately.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, the move has been necessitated by the commitment of traditional authorities and residents to use dialogue in addressing the lingering dispute.

“This has been necessitated by the genuine desire of the Chiefs and people of the area to sustain peace in the area, as well as the improvement in the security situation in the area.”

Commending chiefs and residents for their adopted resolve, the government underscored the critical need for dialogue in every peace-building effort.

“Government continues to express its gratitude to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area and urges them to continue to resort to peaceful means in solving their problems.”

Both towns endured a 12-hour curfew following pockets of attacks.
