Ginger, Charcoal, Plantain Tagged as Highest Inflation items as CPI Falls to 6.3%

Ginger, charcoal, plantain and other items have emerged as the highest inflation rate items as the Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) fell to 6.3% in November 2025.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) reports that Ginger recorded 94%, Charcoal 59.9%, Green Plantain 58.8%, Cinema and Cultural Service 46.4% and Avocado Pear 43.5%.
Five other items with the highest inflation in November included Cashew, Onion, Crab, Snail and Dark Beer.
It further reported the top ten contributors to the overall inflation included Charcoal, Herrings, Green Plantain, Cinema/Cultural service, Ginger, Onion, Cooked Rice, Accommodation, Vegetable Oil and Yam.
These contributed 51.1% to the overall inflation.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra (25.4%), Eastern (17.6%), Ashanti (17.1%), Central (9.6%) and Western (9.5%) were regions that contributed the most to inflation.
Food and Non-Food Inflation
The GSS reported that food inflation rose to 6.6%, down from 9.5% in October, while non-food inflation fell to 6.1% from 6.9%.
On the other hand, inflation for locally produced items fell from 8.0% in October to 6.8% in November 2025, while inflation for imported goods declined to 7.3% from 9.3%.
The GSS, while encouraging businesses to strengthen the local supply chain and pass cost savings to consumers where possible, advised households to avoid unnecessary spending to make way for savings.
It also counselled the government to maintain fiscal discipline and invest in storage, irrigation and transport systems.
