Finance Minister Pays Courtesy Call On Asantehene

The Minister for Finance, Hon Mohammed Amin Adam has paid a courtesy visit to introduce himself to the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Minister, who now takes over from Ken Ofori Atta, has begun his ten-month mandate with a familiarization visit to the requisite stakeholders, agencies and leaders after his appointment last week.

On his mission to the Palace on February 20, 2024, Hon Amin Adam sought the blessings and counsel of the King for his herculean task in the next couple of months.

“Soon after I was appointed to take over from my boss, Ken Ofori Atta, I knew that this Palace was going to be a constant place of visit to me because of the wisdom God has endowed you with which you have always used to support leader after leader to steer the affairs of our country. Many people do not know, but I have come to you several times. The last time I came to you was just last month and I’m here again to seek your blessings and your wise counsel.”

Focus
The former Deputy Minister for Education has set his focus on mobilizing funds for the completion of the 500-capacity Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s Block, the Kumasi International Airport and the Kejetia Market Phase II, he told His Majesty.

The three projects in the Ashanti Region are on the radar of the government, he noted, assuring of their commitment to finding the needed funds for the contractors to resume work immediately.

He emphasised that the projects have stalled for months now due to economic hardship which necessitated an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

“The president will soon make a huge pronouncement on the projects,” he disclosed.

Revenue Mobilisation
His Majesty urged the 49-year-old to exploit the various unexplored sectors to enhance the country’s fiscal position by leveraging on his financial engineering background as he conceded the finance ministry is an arduous sector.

He further challenged the Minister to justify his appointment to the Ghanaian populace by putting in place comprehensive and sound policies to relieve the citizens of prevailing global economic hardship.

He also implored the staff and other appointees at the Ministry to rally their support and motivation behind the new Minister for his tenure to be successful.

“Unite in your work with the staff to give a facelift to the Finance Ministry.”

Hon Amin Adam was in the accompany of Deputy Finance Minister John Ampontuah Kumah, Chief Director Eva Eselba Mends, Director of Economic Strategy and Research Alhassan Iddrisu, Director of Policy Coordination Monitoring and Evaluation Division Augustus Kwesi Adu and others.

Appointment
Hon Amin Adam was reassigned to the Finance Ministry on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Minister for Energy responsible for the Petroleum Sector.

He takes over from Ken Ofori Atta who has reportedly been appointed as the Senior Presidential Advisor on the Economy and Special Envoy on International Investments and Capital Markets.
