You Have 2 Weeks to Vacate Forest Reserves; Ashanti Regional Minister to Miners

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amoakohene has given miners illegally operating in the region’s forest zones to vacate within fourteen days.

At a media engagement on February 6, 2025, he outlined some efforts put in place to rid the forest reserves of illegal mining.

“Miners within our forest reserves have two weeks to vacate,” he announced.

To make the fight effective, he said, he will be working in tangent with other Regional Ministers.

“I am working together with other regional Ministers for a wholistic approach to tackle illegal mining.”

Additionally, he said a team has been put in place to restore normalcy and order in the mining sector.

Highlighting the impact of the illegality on the environment, he reiterated the government’s plausible commitment to fighting the menace.

“The operation has led to widespread deforestation, pollution of water bodies, and destruction of farmlands.”

“The government’s ultimatum is a clear indication of its commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development.  It’s essential for illegal miners to heed the warning and vacate the areas to avoid any legal consequences.”
