Pump More Capital Into Ghana Holding; Otumfuo to Stanbic Bank Leadership

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has encouraged the leadership of Stanbic Bank to inject more capital into their Ghana Holdings, Stanbic Bank Ghana.
In a message directed at the international arm of the company through Wilhelmus Engelbrecht, the Regional Chief Executive, on August 19, 2025, during a courtesy call, Otumfuo emphasised that the minimum paid-up capital of GHC400 million was inadequate.
His Majesty did not mince words when he stated that the support of the was inadequate.
This, Otumfuo noted, had left the local company handicapped in contributing to the development of the Ghanaian economy.
“I hope you continue to support the local bank. They are struggling here in Ghana. Whatever you are doing, I want you to do more. Your good is not good enough. Do more. It’s a good strategy bank, and with the appropriate support, it will enhance your development for the standard bank generally. I hope you give them the support in listening to competent and qualified people who are here, who have the experience and knowledge to do it.
“Locally, we don’t have the economic might to do it, so we count on you to support them in terms of SMEs. If they are capitalising from within, Ghc400 million is not enough. You can do more. It’s time you contributed to building the economy. Buying treasury bills to make money doesn’t help the economy in any way. If they are capitalised properly, they can also help the industrial sector.”
His Majesty is willing to engage the international Management body on this issue.
The Board of Directors and Management of Stanbic Bank Ghana paid a courtesy visit to offer their condolences to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, at the Manhyia following the passing of the Queen, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The delegation also made donations in support of the upcoming One-week celebration of the Queen.
It included Esi Tawia Addo-Ashong, Board Chair, Kwamina Asomaning, the Chief Executive and Mawuko Afadzinu, the Head of Brand and Marketing.
