Suspension of Berekum from Bono Regional House of Chiefs Not Legally Valid: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes
There is always a display of ignorance, arrogance, and disgrace whenever “Aduana Dog” in Dormaa always wants to be seen or regarded as a “Falcon or Hawk(Oyoko)”.
First and foremost, it is very necessary to state that the seven(7) Paramount Chiefs out of the total 17 Paramount Chiefs have ABSOLUTELY NO POWER and AUTHORITY under the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Chieftaincy Act 2008,(Act 759) to suspend the Berekum Traditional Council from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
Even in terms of quorum, how possible can 7 out of 17 Paramount Chiefs suspend Berekum Traditional Council?
Some of these decisions and utterances make people wonder about the legal brain status of Dormaahene.
The Bono Regional House of Chiefs consists of 17 Paramount Chiefs/Traditional Councils namely:
- Awua-Domase Traditional Council
- Badu Traditional Council
- Banda Traditional Council
- Berekum Traditional Council
- Dormaa Traditional Council
- Drobo Traditional Council
- Dwenem Traditional Council
- Japekrom Traditional Council
- Kwatwoma Traditional Council
- Nsawkaw Traditional Council
- Nsoatre Traditional Council
- Odomase No. 1 Traditional Council
- Sampa Traditional Council
- Seikwa Traditional Council
- Suma Traditional Council
- Sunyani Traditional Council
- Wenchi Traditional Council
Among these aforementioned 17 Traditional Councils, some of them are part of Asanteman Council and directly swear their oath of allegiance to the Golden Stool.
Therefore, the decision to suspend Berekum Traditional Council from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs by the Seven(7) Paramount Chiefs namely Dormaahene, Wenchihene, Drobohene, Sumahene, Kwatwomahene, Nsawkawhene and Dwenemhene is null and void.
If the seven (7) of you don’t want anything to do with Berekum, what about the other nine (9) who still have a positive relationship with Berekum? Is 7 bigger than 9?
Can such a decision or determination be made without any legal backing?
The Headquarters of the National House of Chiefs is at Manhyia in Kumasi, just opposite the Manhyia Palace.
Will the Dormaahene as the current President of Bono Regional House of Chiefs be able to peacefully attend meetings at the Headquarters of the National House of Chiefs or is it the case that he has taken the decision to suspend himself automatically from meetings of the National House of Chiefs?
The Dormaahene is creating unnecessary tension and if the President of the Republic of Ghana together with his National Security Minister and Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs do not show concern and call him to order, they should not blame Asanteman Council if the Youth of Asanteman permanently ban the Dormaahene from entering or passing through the jurisdictions of Asanteman.
