Stop Imposing Unauthorized Fees on NHIS Members- NHIA to Providers

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, has cautioned all credentialed health institutions in the country against imposing co-payment on members of the Scheme.

In a statement, he assured that there will henceforth be seamless and prompt payment of claims as the NHI Fund has been uncapped.

The Authority has therefore directed all NHI-credentialed institutions to strictly adhere to NHIA policies and guidelines including stamping out illegal charges (co-payment) and the imposition of all unauthorized fees on NHIS members.

He has also charged them to ensure accurate claims submissions resulting from real patient attendance and to deliver quality healthcare services in line with NHIS standards and protocols.

Dr Asare Bampoe warned that providers who violate the mutually agreed-upon NHIA policies will be penalised.

“To uphold accountability, the NHIA will continue to publish details of claims paid on its website and enhance the monitoring of healthcare facilities nationwide,” he added.
