Stay Away from Police Profession if You Intend to Make Money- Asantehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged members of the public to avoid pursuing a career in law enforcement if they have the ulterior motive of making money.

Addressing the Police Management Board on January 6, 2026, Otumfuo said the demands of the profession made it more of a calling.

His Majesty stated that aspiring police officers must be armed with selflessness, compassion and firmness.

“This profession must be a calling. If you do not have the heart for it, I will advise you not to go because I don’t think it’s for money. You should be devoted, you should have the heart, you should have the compassion for the people and be able to interpret the law and at the same time be firm.”

The Asantehene said this while expressing his appreciation of the police body and their mandate.

“I came to encourage you. Ghana needs you. Ghana relies on you for peace. The security of Ghana internally depends on you, and therefore, we don’t take you for granted. When I should sleep, I sleep because I have some police officers appointed to me in the night and day, and they are doing a fantastic job there.”
