Society Suffers More When Women Fail- Methodist Bishop

The former Kumasi Diocese Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Rt Rev Prof Sarfo Kantanka, has asserted that the implication of a man’s failure on society is nothing compared to that of a woman.

According to him, the impact is grave.

“Some women have accepted some situations and so society is suffering…Society suffers more when women fail,” he said while delivering a sermon at the Eighth Enstoolment Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom II, on February 6, 2025.

He further referenced the unified fight by the daughters of Zelophehad in the bible to change the pattern of inheritance in Israel, emphasising that mindsets which limit the advancement of women to greater heights in society can be dismantled with counter-crusades.

The high offices of the female traditional rulers, he said, can be leveraged to advance such crusades.

“It’s about time we got women who are ready to fight for change. I know women’s empowerment is dear to Asantehemaa. We need all the Queens to join Her Majesty in her campaign because we cannot stand on one foot…Go to schools and show concern about teenage pregnancy.

“Nanahemaanom should be crusaders. We acknowledged the dignity you have brought to the role but there are so many women living undesirable lives. Go into your towns and villages and mobilise the girls, hear them out and if we are able to uplift them, it will reflect on the development of our country.”
Meanwhile, he called for stern discipline against men who mistreat women in the court of Asantehemaa.

“From my observations of social programmes on radio and TV, my challenge to Nananom today is to haul men who cheat on their wives and subject women to bad treatments before Asantehemaa so that everyone will realise the backing Asanteman gives to its women.”
