Small-scale Licences Issued From December 7 Revoked

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah has announced the revocation of all small-scale mining licences issued from December 2024.

This is in response to findings from two committee reports after an assessment of the licensing regime in the country.

According to the Ellembelle Member of Parliament, these documents were issued in haste and thereby without due diligence.

“We are heading to revoke all mining licences based on the findings. All small-scale licenses that were issued from December 7 are hereby revoked. Whether you have an EPA license, the findings from December 7 were rushed.

“Those licences did not follow due process, and the right things were not done. People will have the chance to appeal to make sure the right things are done but our focus is to make sure the right things are done,” he said at a press conference on March 19.

This is one of four immediate measures the Ministry is putting in place to sanitize the mining sector to protect the environment.

The rest include the disbandment of community licenses; the establishment of a Technical Small Scale Mining Review Committee to review all existing small-scale mining licences; and the establishment of a new classification of small-scale licences.
