Sekyere Kumawu Community Benefits From Otumfuo-Smile Dental Outreach
The Sekyere Kumawu District will benefit from a 4-day Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation Dental Smile Outreach Programme from May 20, to May 23, 2024. The outreach is in collaboration with Sekyere Kumawu District Health Hospital.
Speaking to Opemsuo Radio’s Johnson Aduomi, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Mr Alex Agbanu in his remarks expressed his appreciation to Otumfuo Foundation.
“Initially Sekyere Kumawu was finding difficulties in the treatment of oral (dental) diseases but since the commissioning of our new hospital, we’ve embarked on dental services which are helping the entire community. Also, Kumawu Hospital has the personnel and resources to provide effective treatment for patients. We’re urging all and sundry to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure proper dental care.”
On her part, the Ashanti Regional Dental Officer doubling as the Coordinator for Otumfuo-Smile Dental Outreach Programes, Dr. Esther Mark disclosed that, they mainly focused on areas where there are no dental hospitals and clinics.
According to her, Sekyere Kumawu and Afram-Plains enclaves have been part of their target communities this year
“We see it as a very important place to visit as foundation to help support the district with the needed quality health service. Basically, our 4-day drive will focus on children and students in Junior High Schools, Lower and Upper Primary,” she stressed.
The Otumfuo-Smiles Dental Outreach, since its existence in 2014 has reached out to over 100,000 school children and individuals in Ghana.
The outreach programme covers 4 main areas on dental health namely; Education, Extraction, Screening, Scaling & Polishing sessions. The Otumfuo-Smiles Dental Outreach does not only focus on preventing and treating diseases and illness, but also on helping to improve well-being and quality of life.
