Sekondi MCE Not Officially Reinstated; Says Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly
The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has said it has not received official information to the effect that its suspended Chief Executive has been reinstated.
Speaking on Eyewitness News monitored by opemsuo.com, Public Relations Officer of the assembly, John Laste, said the assembly takes the news as a rumour.
“We have not received any formal communication to that effect. We take it as just a rumour on social media”, he said.
The former MCE, Abdul- Mummin Issah was suspended by President Akufo-Addo on February 4, 2022, after an audio of an altercation between the MCE and a police officer went viral.
The MCE called the police “Inspector” officiating his duties at a checkpoint at Kwesimintsim Cemetery on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, “stupid” and “ugly” after the police officer tried to stop the MCE from skipping checks, according to the viral audio.
On February 4, he was arraigned in a circuit court in Sekondi where he was granted a Bail to the tune of ¢100,000 with sureties after he was arrested on February 3, 2022.
He has been charged with three counts of assault on a public officer, offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, and dangerous driving.
The case is still in court.
