Ghana’s Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has announced that the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines will be administered to persons who took the first jab pretty soon.
At a press briefing, he noted that government’s intention to inoculate 20,000,000 of the adult population by the end of the year is very feasible with series of pending doses to be received.
He noted that, “as at 10th of August 1,282,379 vaccines administered out of which 865, 432 have their first doses, 416,957 have taken two doses of AstraZeneca or some small amount of Sputnik which came into the country.”
“Only yesterday, we had 249,600 AtraZeneca which have been cleared from the port and it is from the United Kingdom and its waiting to be given to those who had a first dose of AstraZeneca”, he noted.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed reception of the vaccines from the UK government today in a post.

“The Government of Ghana today received 249,600 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Government of the United Kingdom for the continuation of our Covid-19 national vaccination programme.”
The donation is part of a broader pledge by the UK Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson at the G7 meeting in June, in which the UK government will share 100 million jabs with the rest of the world, of which 80% will go through COVAX”, Ministry of Health posted.
