Rotary Club Of Kumasi Donates To Manhyia Prison
Rotary Club of Kumasi has donated a musical instrument to inmates of the Manhyia Local Prison in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The donation was presented on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, by Management members of the club led by the President, Nana Effah Mensah.
A set of drums was presented after the Prison wrote to the Club requesting for a musical instrument to facilitate their church services for the inmates.
In addition to that, the Club provided meals and drinks to the inmates as well as free medical services.
The inmates were medically screened by doctors from the Manhyia Government Hospital and provided with the needed medical care, all at the expense of the Club and its partners.
Speaking to Opemsuo Radio, Nana Effah Mensah said the Club found it necessary to act on the request after “Rev Amo Mensah wrote to us about the challenges they are faced with and sought our help. They requested instruments for their church service here. We consulted with the leadership of the club and came here with the instrument with the help of our partners”.
Thanking its partners for the support, Nana Effah noted that the club will rise to the assistance of the inmates whenever the need arises.
He said it was not the Club’s first time donating to them as they visited the Prison in 2014 and 2015 to undertake a medical screening.
“Persons here are not outcasts. They are constantly in our thoughts. We do all these so they know they are not forgotten. We love them and we will continue to support them with any help they will need and within our reach.”
Receiving the donors and their donations was Joseph Asabre, the Deputy Director of Prisons at the Manhyia Prisons who expressed gratitude.
He also underscored the essence of donations and socialisation with inmates in correctional efforts to avoid recidivism.
