Residents Term Suame Round-about Prez Garden
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 18th October 2022, cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of a 4-tier interchange at Suame, in fulfilment of a pledge he made to the Ashanti Region while seeking election.
According to President Akufo-Addo, “the Suame Interchange will be the first 4-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region, and the second in Ghana, after the Pokuase Interchange which I commissioned on 9th July 2021.”
He stated that once completed, it will address the perennial congestion experienced around the Suame Roundabout, and improve urban mobility within the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan.
Since the sod-cutting ceremony, not a single brick has been laid to commence the project, however, iron sheets have been raised around the area where the interchange will be constructed.
The place has been taken over by weeds ever since and according to some residents has become a habitation for criminals in the area.
The area has thus been termed the President’s Garden.
“It is dangerous to walk around from 6 pm whiles holding your phone. It will be snatched from you. Either they (the government) come and clear the weeds or they (the government) cultivate tomatoes, pepper and other vegetables if they (the government) are not ready to construct the interchange”, one resident told Opemsuo radio’s Kwame Owusu Achiaw.
